Ferozepur, September 10, 2015: Hundreds of student belonging to local Shahid Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus (SBSSTC) blocked Ferozepur-Moga GT road for more than two hours. The students were agitated after they came to know that SBSSTC College which was earlier affiliated with Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar has now been associated with newly formed Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University (MRSSTU), Bathinda. The students, among whom most of them were of first year, alleged that the college administration kept them in dark during the time of their admission. Sahil, one of the students studying mechanical engineering in this campus, said that when we had taken admission in this institution, the college was affiliated with Punjab Technical University which has a good reputation. “Now we are feeling that we have been deceived and our careers are destroyed due to college administration”, he further added.

Several students blocked the Ferozepur-Moga GT road for several hours and raised slogans against the college administration. They demanded that college administration should return their money which they had deposited at the time of their admission. Meanwhile T.S. Sidhu, the director of the institution said that there seems to be some misunderstanding or confusion among the students. “Yes, the institution is now attached with MRSSTU but it is a decision made by the state government not by us.  The university is formed by the state government so there should be no confusion about the validity of the certificate”, he said.

The students threatened to fasten their protest in future. Meanwhile the college administration said that it will try to dispel the misunderstanding among the students.

Meanwhile T.S.Sidhu, the director of SBSSTC informed that the polytechnic wing of the college has been awarded with the “Best Technical Campus” award by National Institute of Technical Teacher’s Training and Research, Chandigarh. He said that this award is given to three best technical institutions by NITTTR from the institutions of nine states including Uttar Pradesh, J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Rajasthan. “21 colleges had of these nine states had applied for the award but we are happy that our hard work has paid off”, he further added.
