Storytelling as Social Diagnosis at CDOE

Chandigarh, February 16, 2026: The Centre of Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi, Chandigarh, organised a significant literary event titled “The Art of Telling Stories.”

The programme centred on the Hindi short story collection “Prem Na Haat Bikaay” by Prof. Rajendra Kumar Kanojia, Head of the Department of Orthopaedics, PGI, Chandigarh.

Over 100 students and faculty members participated in the event.

Prof. Kanojia’s collection was discussed as an incisive exploration of the complex interplay between social structures and the inner life. His stories move beyond mere narration of events; they read as subtle diagnoses of lived conditions—emotional, ethical, and socio-political—positioning the author as a rare “physician” of both self and society.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Yojna Rawat, DUI, Panjab University, offered a thoughtful reflection on the text, highlighting its moral depth and contemporary relevance. Dr. Manmohan, President, Sahitya Akademi, Chandigarh, situated the collection within a broader cultural framework and observed that such nuanced fictional engagements are largely missing in contemporary Punjabi literature.

Madhav Kaushik, President, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, captivated the audience with his ghazals and eloquent oratory. Faculty members Dr. Rajesh, Dr. Parveen, and Dr. Harmail presented research papers examining the collection from diverse critical perspectives.

Earlier, Prof. Harsh Gandhar, Director, CDOE, welcomed the dignitaries and outlined the thematic vision of the event.

Dr. Ravinder Kaur convened and conducted the programme, while Dr. Kamla Sandhu delivered the vote of thanks.
