State-level U-19 Girls’ Cricket Tournament begins in Ferozepur
The state-level Under-19 girls’ cricket competitions under the 70th Punjab State Inter-District School Games began in Ferozepur today. The tournament is being organised by the School Education Department, Punjab, with the aim of promoting sports among students and providing young athletes a platform to hone their talent.

Ferozepur, September 22, 2026: The state-level Under-19 girls’ cricket competitions under the 70th Punjab State Inter-District School Games began in Ferozepur today. The tournament is being organised by the School Education Department, Punjab, with the aim of promoting sports among students and providing young athletes a platform to hone their talent.
Ferozepur Urban MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar and Guru Har Sahai MLA Fauja Singh Sarari were the chief guests at the inaugural ceremony. The tournament was formally inaugurated after the guests unfurled the flag.
District Education Officer (Secondary) Munila Arora welcomed the guests, players, coaches and teachers from different districts and said school sports played an important role in the overall development of students. She said sports helped inculcate confidence, discipline, team spirit and a competitive spirit among students.
Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary) Dr Satinder Singh, National Awardee, said the competitions would be held from September 22 to 25, with Under-19 girls’ cricket teams from different districts of Punjab participating.
He said the district administration had made arrangements to provide the participating teams with necessary facilities and ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament.
Bhullar congratulated the players and said sports were important for the physical and mental development of students. He encouraged the teams to participate in the tournament in true sporting spirit.
Sarari also wished the players success and stressed the importance of discipline, hard work, perseverance and teamwork.
On the opening day, Kapurthala set a target of 101 runs, in reply to which Pathankot scored 72 runs. In another match, Gurdaspur scored 125 runs while Sangrur managed 100 runs. In the third match, Bathinda scored 169 runs, while Sri Amritsar Sahib was bowled out for 37 runs. Matches in the second session were underway.
