Chandigarh, August 30, 2022: The Dean College and Development Council in collaboration with Centre For Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University, organized a special web-lecture titled ‘Transforming India: National Education Policy, 2020’ under the aegis of the Chief Patron, the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof.(Dr) Raj Kumar on 30 August 2022. It was structured by Prof. (Dr.) Anju Suri, Dean College Development Council, Panjab University in joint venture by Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat, Chairperson, Centre for Human Rights and Duties with Dr. Namita Gupta, Associate Professor, Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University. Dr. Namita Gupta commenced the webinar by emphasizing the necessity of mass awareness and clarity regarding semantics of the New Education Policy 2020.

The Chief Guest for the event, Prof. Renu Vig Dean University Instructions (DUI), Panjab University spoke at length about the imperative need to overhaul the Indian Education System by transforming the educational pedagogy to make it employable where a student can effectively link vocational skills with the pursuant degree course. Prof. Ashwini Kumar Bhalla, Assistant Director, Higher Education, Panjab in his Keynote speech delved in detail for equipping the education system with requisite blending of learning disciplines by making academic institutions ‘a cafeteria of courses’. He focused on a ‘student centric approach’ where interdisciplinary courses will mandatorily include the hallmark of research & innovation; a flexible credits system; and appropriate career counseling centres. He further discussed the conceptualization of versatile and holistic educational learning courses under the newly formed New Education Policy 2020 which would amalgamate standalone institutes as multi disciplinary courses offering a cumulative four year degree programs. He concluded that the focus would be on a hybrid educational system where 40% of courses would be devoted to physical classroom teaching,30% to distance learning programme and rest of the remaining 30% will be kept for online mode of education. The session was followed up questions by the participants and clarified queries pertaining to the training of teachers under NEP as well as the process of transition which would be undertaken by  all National academic Institutions.

The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat, Chairperson Centre for Human Rights and Duties who comprehensively summed up the session and expressed gratitude for rendering such an enlightening lecture and lauded the initiatives taken to fill up vacant teaching faculty posts in academic institutions as well as introducing Human Rights Degree courses at the under-graduate degree courses.
