Social Awareness Essential for Gender Equality: HIRD Director Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan

Nilokheri, December 19, 2025: Gender equality doesn't come solely from government schemes; it stems from a change in mindset and thinking. For this, society needs to bring about a revolution within itself. Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development, expressed these views today while addressing the participants at the concluding session of a five-day training program on the topic of Gender Module being held at HIRD.

The program coordinator, Dr. Sushil Mehta, welcomed the chief guest, expressed gratitude for his presence, and presented a brief overview of the program.

Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan said that there is no difference between a boy and a girl; both are entitled to equal respect and equal opportunities. He said that in Indian culture, women have always been given a place of honor. "Where women are worshipped, there the gods reside"—this is not just a statement, but the essence of Indian tradition.

Expressing pride in India's cultural heritage, Dr. Chauhan said that Indian traditions are far richer and more humane than other cultures of the world. He said that the people of our country live the spirit of dedication not only through their actions but also through their nature and values. A characteristic of Indian society is that service, cooperation, and respect are a natural part of life.

He said that our values teach us to live for others, and this feeling makes us humane, sensitive, and responsible citizens. When there is dedication in one's nature and sensitivity in one's values, only then is true equality, harmony, and development possible in society.

Dr. Chauhan said that in whichever field women have been given opportunities, they have proven through their talent that they are capable of playing a leading role in every field. He also made the participants pledge that they would adopt the tradition of celebrating birthdays according to the Indian calendar, which will further strengthen our cultural consciousness.

During the training program, the participants also shared their experiences. They explained that their understanding of gender equality, changing social attitudes, and practical approaches has been further strengthened by attending this program. HIRD faculty member Sandeep Bhardwaj, Haryana State Livelihood Mission Coordinator Gauri Kumari, Saurabh Arora, and other participants were present on this occasion.
