‘SHEROES’ honoured to mark International Women’s Day at Panjab University

Chandigarh, March 10, 2023: In a unique initiative, Centre for Social Work, Panjab University in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra (Mohali) honoured women from various walks of life to mark the International Women’s Day. Prof. Rajinder Kaur, Dean Faculty of Laws, Panjab University was the Chief Guest at the event. Mr. Paramjit Singh, Deputy Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra (Punjab) and Dr. Nemi Chand, State Liaison Officer, NSS, Chandigarh, were the Guests of Honour.
 
Dr. Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work, welcomed the guests and said that it is significant to honour the silent ‘Sheroes’ who make an impact in the society with their contribution. “This year the International Women’s Day has declared the theme of embracing equity and we are making an effort to provide a special platform to highlight the role of women achievers in the society” he added. Prof. Rajinder Kaur appreciated the Centre for Social Work for encouraging the silent ‘Sheores’ and also motivating the students to hold such events. Mr. Paramjit Singh said that the Nehru Yuva Kendra feels honoured to collaborate for a noble event which helps in providing much needed appreciation for women in society. Dr. Nemi Chand said that such events help reach out to the diverse sections of society.
 
A total of 30 women from diverse sections of society and different geographical locations were honoured in the event who have made significant contribution in fields of sports, academics, science, social work to name a few. Even young achievers and influencers from the digital platforms were a part of the women honoured for their social contributions. The event was also attended by various senior faculty members from different Departments and Centre of the Panjab University.
