At a grand event held at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi, the 3rd International Conference on Higher Education and Skill Development, along with the Education Excellence Awards ceremony, was organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, in collaboration with the Services Export Promotional Council. Over 300 universities from across the country participated in this prestigious event.

New Delhi, September 22, 2025: At a grand event held at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi, the 3rd International Conference on Higher Education and Skill Development, along with the Education Excellence Awards ceremony, was organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, in collaboration with the Services Export Promotional Council. Over 300 universities from across the country participated in this prestigious event.

Sharda University, located in Knowledge Park, Greater Noida, was honored with three distinguished awards. The University’s Chancellor, Ramesh Gupta, received the award for “Outstanding Leadership in Higher Education.” The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Anil Kumar, was recognized as the “Best University Leader of the Year” for academic excellence. Additionally, Dr. Meera Singh was awarded the “Exemplary Director of International Relations.”

The ceremony was graced by eminent personalities including Dr. Shashank Sharma from NITI Aayog, Dr. Pankaj Mittal of the Association of Indian Universities, and Padma Shri Professor Ashutosh Verma.

Speaking at the event, Chancellor Ramesh Gupta emphasized the vital role of education, especially higher education, in ensuring sustainable livelihoods and driving economic growth. He noted that higher education not only shapes an individual’s character but also enhances intellectual capacity and creativity, which are essential for the progress of any nation. “Both India and Africa have a large young population aspiring to fulfill their dreams through quality higher education and better job opportunities,” he said. He further highlighted the importance of delivering relevant skills aligned with market needs to meet today’s biggest challenges.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Anil Kumar spoke about India’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, focusing on inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. He mentioned that India is providing higher education to millions of aspiring youth through more than 60,000 educational institutions. The National Education Policy, launched in 2021, targets skills essential for India’s young generation in the 21st century. This visionary initiative aims to transform India into a developed nation by its centenary of independence, emphasizing technology, infrastructure, education, and healthcare to promote holistic, sustainable development, reduce inequalities, and improve the quality of life.
