Chandigarh, January 25, 2026: The ongoing Seven Days Special NSS Camp at Government Home Science College, Chandigarh witnessed a series of impactful and socially relevant activities on its second day, aimed at spreading awareness and fostering responsible citizenship among NSS Volunteers and the community on January 24, 2026.
The day began with an Awareness Session on ‘Alcohol Addiction and Recovery’ conducted by members of the Alcoholics Anonymous Self Help Group, Chandigarh. Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal (Engineer) and Dr. Amber Dhillon (Educationist & Content Creator) sensitised NSS Volunteers about the ill effects of alcohol addiction and highlighted the importance of rehabilitation and support systems for recovery. They also shared real-life experiences including their
personal recovery journey that demonstrated how alcohol addiction can begin as social drinking and gradually turn into dependency, affecting career, family life, mental health and personal dignity. The narrative strongly conveyed that alcoholism is a disease, not a moral failure and recovery is possible with the right guidance, counselling and support. Psychological effects of addiction, family trauma and the importance of timely intervention, counselling and rehabilitation were also discussed.
In the Second part of the day, to promote patriotic spirit and creativity among volunteers, a Patriotic Quiz Competition and Bookmark Making Competition were organised by Library officials & NSS wing of the college, witnessing enthusiastic participation from volunteers. These activities encouraged awareness of national values while nurturing creative expression.
A Pledge Taking Ceremony was also held wherein volunteers collectively pledged to stand against drug abuse and Baal Vivah reaffirming their commitment to building a healthy and socially responsible society.
In celebration of National Girl Child Day, NSS volunteers performed a powerful Nukkad Natak highlighting issues related to gender equality, girl child education and empowerment. The performance effectively conveyed strong social messages to the audience.
The day concluded with an Awareness Rally on “Say No To Drugs”, wherein volunteers marched with slogans and placards to spread awareness among the general public about the harmful consequences of drug abuse.
