Chandigarh, January 29, 2026: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sanjay Tandon has extended warm congratulations to Saurabh Joshi on being elected as the Mayor of Chandigarh, describing the victory as a decisive mandate for development, stability and good governance in the City Beautiful.
Congratulating the newly elected Mayor, Tandon said in a statement that Saurabh Joshi’s win reflects the trust and confidence reposed by the elected councillors in his capable leadership, vision and commitment to public service.
Tandon also welcomed the election of BJP councillors Jasmanpreet Singh and Suman Sharma as Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively, both receiving 18 votes each.
He expressed confidence that under the leadership and guidance of Mayor Saurabh Joshi, Chandigarh will witness all-round development, with renewed focus on civic amenities, infrastructure strengthening, cleanliness, public welfare and transparent administration.
Highlighting the electoral outcome, Tandon noted that the BJP secured a clear majority with 18 votes, while the Aam Aadmi Party obtained 11 votes and the Congress candidate Gurpreet Singh Gabbi received seven votes including the support of six councillors and one Member of Parliament.
Sanjay Tandon further stated that this result is not just a local victory, but also a reflection of the people’s continued faith in the visionary and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the BJP’s consistent performance across urban local bodies shows that citizens continue to endorse the Prime Minister’s agenda of development, good governance and corruption-free administration.
Reiterating his best wishes, Tandon said he is confident that Mayor Saurabh Joshi will work in close coordination with councillors, officers and stakeholders to take Chandigarh to new heights. He added that the BJP remains committed to serving the people and ensuring that Chandigarh continues to set benchmarks in urban governance and quality of life.
