Ludhiana, April 30, 2026: Self-enumeration for the upcoming Census 2027 has commenced in Ludhiana, with Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer Himanshu Jain initiating the process by registering his own details online on Thursday.
Appealing to residents, Jain emphasized that the self-enumeration initiative allows citizens to conveniently submit their household information through the official portal se.census.gov.in using a mobile number and OTP verification. He highlighted that the process is simple, secure, and can be completed from the comfort of one’s home, eliminating the need to wait for an enumerator.
Under this phase, residents are required to provide comprehensive details about their household and family members, including responses to House Listing Operations (HLO) questions. These cover key aspects such as the type of house, availability of amenities, assets, and other basic facilities—information that plays a crucial role in shaping developmental policies and welfare schemes.
The process involves user registration, OTP verification, filling in the required details, and final submission, after which a unique Self Enumeration ID is generated. Authorities have assured that all submitted information will remain strictly confidential and will be used solely for planning and policy-making purposes.
For households unable to complete the process online, enumerators will visit during the field operation phase to collect the necessary information.
Jain urged residents to actively participate in the self-enumeration process and to spread awareness among their families and communities through social media and local networks. He added that accurate census data is vital for effective planning in sectors such as housing, water supply, sanitation, education, healthcare, and employment.
