Chandigarh, January 29, 2026: The sixth day of the ongoing Seven Days Special NSS Camp at Government Home Science College, Chandigarh commenced with a Self-Defence session for NSS volunteers aimed at instilling confidence among girls to protect themselves against anti-social elements and to promote overall personality development.
The session was conducted by Senior Lady Constable Balwinder Kaur from the Chandigarh Police Department. She elaborated on the significance of self-defence for every girl, especially in today’s society. Emphasising that self-defence is not limited to physical strength alone, she highlighted the importance of presence of mind, confidence, and alertness in challenging situations. She also introduced the concept of martial arts and explained its role in fostering discipline and self-control. During the interactive session, she discussed the five strongest weapons of the human body that can be effectively used for self-protection, as well as the five most vulnerable points of the human body that can help one defend or escape in threatening situations. The session was highly motivating and encouraged volunteers to become more aware, confident, and self-reliant.
This was followed by an Awareness Session on Organ Donation, conducted by Ms. Preeti Gupta from the Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network (MOHAN), Chandigarh. The resource person described organ donation as a “Gift of Life” and highlighted its crucial role in saving lives. The session covered key aspects such as who can donate organs, the significance of organ donation in the healthcare sector, and the organs that can be donated. The talk effectively dispelled common myths and inspired volunteers to view organ donation as a noble and humanitarian act.
In the later part of the day, a screening of the inspirational movie “Wonder” was organised for the NSS volunteers. The film conveyed powerful messages of kindness, empathy, acceptance, courage, and inclusivity, which resonate strongly with the National Service Scheme motto, “Not Me, But You.” It emphasised the importance of respecting differences, standing against bullying, and choosing kindness in everyday life. The movie deeply moved the audience and encouraged volunteers to cultivate compassion and understanding towards others.
The day concluded with a Woollen Donation Drive, enabling volunteers to put into action the values of empathy and compassion learned throughout the day.
The Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, lauded the efforts of the NSS Wing for organising meaningful and impactful activities under the special camp.
