Schools, Colleges to Remain Closed in Kangra on July 20–21 Amid Red Alert for Heavy Rain
In view of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Red Alert forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in Kangra district on July 20 and 21, District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Hem Raj Bairwa has ordered the closure of all government and private educational institutions during the two-day period.

Dharamshala, July 19, 2026: In view of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Red Alert forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in Kangra district on July 20 and 21, District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Hem Raj Bairwa has ordered the closure of all government and private educational institutions during the two-day period.
The closure will apply to all schools, colleges, vocational and technical training institutes, Anganwadi centres, crèches, the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, and the Sanskrit University at Balyahar. The Deputy Commissioner has directed the heads of all educational institutions to ensure strict compliance with the orders.
He has also instructed that any examinations scheduled in these institutions on July 20 and 21 be postponed. While teaching and non-teaching staff will also remain off duty, their services may be requisitioned by the district administration if required for emergency or disaster management duties.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner has appealed to residents to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near rivers, streams, and other water bodies during the period of heavy rainfall. He urged the public to report any emergency immediately to the District Disaster Management Centre by calling the toll-free helpline 1077.
