School Students Explore Labs, Learning and Entrepreneurship at Government Home Science College

Around 60 school students from Govt. Model High School, Sector 50, Chandigarh, visited Government Home Science College, as part of an educational exposure programme aimed at providing insight into higher education, skill development, and career opportunities in the field of Home Science. The visit enabled students to understand the practical relevance of subjects through direct interaction with laboratories and facilities.

Chandigarh, February 15, 2026: Around 60 school students from Govt. Model High School, Sector 50, Chandigarh, visited Government Home Science College, as part of an educational exposure programme aimed at providing insight into higher education, skill development, and career opportunities in the field of Home Science. The visit enabled students to understand the practical relevance of subjects through direct interaction with laboratories and facilities.
They visited the laboratories of various department of the college. In the Human Development laboratories, faculty members explained concepts related to Child and Human development, and demonstrated basic counselling techniques, emphasizing emotional well-being, communication skills, and guidance practices. Students were taken to the Textile Department laboratories, where they learned about different fabrics, textile processes, and practical applications of textile science.
A major attraction of the visit was the college cafeteria, in Foods and Nutrition department, where students enjoyed meals prepared by M.Sc. Home Science students under entrepreneurial ventures. They were briefed about menu planning, food preparation, pricing, marketing, and customer interaction, which helped them understand the nitty-gritty of selling and small-scale entrepreneurship in a real-life setting.
The visit was accompanied by Sakshi and Inderjeet from the school, who appreciated the informative and engaging exposure provided to the students. Overall, the visit enriched students’ understanding of skill-based education, practical learning, and entrepreneurial opportunities, inspiring them to explore diverse academic and professional pathways.
Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal, Government Home Science College, expressed that such educational visits play a vital role in exposing school students to practical learning, skill development, and entrepreneurial opportunities. She emphasized that early interaction with laboratories and real-life applications helps students develop clarity about higher education options and future career paths.
