School of Communication Studies, Panjab University organised an event to observe the National Press Day. The Chief guest for the event was Sh. Vijai Vardhan, Chief Information Commissioner,  Haryana. Prof. Y.P.Verma, Registrar, Panjab University and Dr. Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, HRDC, Panjab University graced the event as the guest of honour.

Chandigarh, November 16, 2022: School of Communication Studies, Panjab University organised an event to observe the National Press Day. The Chief guest for the event was Sh. Vijai Vardhan, Chief Information Commissioner,  Haryana. Prof. Y.P.Verma, Registrar, Panjab University and Dr. Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, HRDC, Panjab University graced the event as the guest of honour. Dr. Bhavneet Bhatti, Chairperson, School of Communication Studies, introduced the theme of the conference as 'Role of Media in Nation Building'.
 
The Chief guest, Vijai Vardhan, shared personal anecdotes throwing light on the Role of Media in the National Building. Having a rich experience as an administrator, Vardhan shared various examples where the state interacts with the media. He encouraged the budding journalists to choose compassion and concern while reporting for the society. His address was followed by an interactive session. Thereafter, the first issue of the monthly newsletter of the School of Communication Studies, 'Soch' was released at the event. The newsletter is an attempt to document the various activities being held at the School of Communication Studies.
 
Later in the day, the department held activities like sessions on investigative journalism and media ethics. A poster making competition was held on the theme, Role of Media in Nation Building. Competition was judged by eminent media persons. Following were the winners-Rakshita Kaul stood first, Ishika Luthra bagged the second place and Diksha Sethia stood third.
