Rohtak, May 14, 2026: In a significant livelihood promotion initiative aimed at economic empowerment of Scheduled Caste communities, the Rohtak district administration has urged eligible beneficiaries to take full advantage of various government support schemes being offered in the fisheries sector for self-employment, income enhancement and sustainable livelihood generation.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said the government is extending multiple financial assistance measures for Scheduled Caste beneficiaries to promote fisheries-based entrepreneurship and create stronger economic opportunities in rural areas.
He said that the initiative is designed to support eligible beneficiaries across the fisheries value chain—from fish farming and pond leasing to fishing operations and fish marketing infrastructure.
“Livelihood generation and economic empowerment of weaker sections remain a priority. Fisheries offer strong self-employment potential, and eligible beneficiaries should proactively avail these schemes to build sustainable income sources,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
Under the scheme, Scheduled Caste beneficiaries undertaking fish farming in Panchayati ponds or government water bodies will receive subsidy support on lease amounts.
For the first year, financial assistance of ₹50,000 per hectare or 50 percent of the actual lease amount (whichever is lower) will be provided, subject to a maximum ceiling of ₹2 lakh per beneficiary for up to 4 hectares.
For the second to fifth year, beneficiaries will be eligible for assistance of ₹40,000 per hectare or 40 percent of the actual lease amount (whichever is lower), with a maximum limit of ₹1.60 lakh per beneficiary for up to 4 hectares.
The Deputy Commissioner further informed that financial support is also available for acquiring fishing rights in notified public water bodies such as rivers, canals and drains. Scheduled Caste beneficiaries securing such fishing contracts through auction will be eligible for 50 percent financial assistance on the approved bid amount, up to a maximum of ₹5 lakh.
To strengthen operational viability, subsidy support is also being provided for fish feed, with eligible beneficiaries entitled to 60 percent assistance on input costs, up to ₹90,000 per hectare, subject to prescribed limits.
Similarly, subsidy is available for the purchase of fishing nets, under which beneficiaries may receive 60 percent assistance up to ₹24,000 per beneficiary.
For families interested in fish vending and retail livelihood opportunities, financial support is also available for procurement of fish vending carts along with essential equipment such as gas stoves, utensils and related accessories. Under this component, 60 percent subsidy up to ₹36,000 per beneficiary may be availed.
District Fisheries Officer Asha Hooda informed that interested beneficiaries may submit applications at the District Fisheries Office, Room No. 302, Mini Secretariat, Rohtak, or at departmental offices located in Meham, Sampla, Kalanaur and Lakhan Majra.
The district administration has encouraged eligible citizens to utilise these schemes as a pathway towards entrepreneurship, financial independence and social empowerment.
