Save Punjab's Industry from Night Black Out: FICO
The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited in view of exigency due to outage of units from GHTP Lehra Mohabbat, GGSSTP Ropar and unavailability of RSD units, Category-2 and 3 industry feeders of grids under O&M Division, Ludhiana city Miller Ganj , Mandi Gobindgarh, Khanna and Mohali have been curtailed from 19:00 to 24:00 hours to manage power shortage/exigency in interest of grid security.

Ludhiana, September 1, 2026: The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited in view of exigency due to outage of units from GHTP Lehra Mohabbat, GGSSTP Ropar and unavailability of RSD units, Category-2 and 3 industry feeders of grids under O&M Division, Ludhiana city Miller Ganj , Mandi Gobindgarh, Khanna and Mohali have been curtailed from 19:00 to 24:00 hours to manage power shortage/exigency in interest of grid security.
The Federation of Industrial & Commercial Organization (FICO) has strongly opposed the PSPCL's decision to impose power blackout on industries by 07 PM to 12 AM on all Category-II and Category-III feeders till further instructions. The delegation met Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Power Minister, Punjab and submitted a written memorandum.
Expressing serious concern, Gurmeet Singh Kular President, FICO, said that the Industrial Blackout is not a Solution, there are the high chances of theft and robbery during the fixed blackout hours, which imposes a serious safety concern to the industry. Moreover, electricity is one of the most important raw materials for industry. Many manufacturing units operate during night shifts to meet production schedules and export commitments. Such sudden power restrictions will severely disrupt production, increase manufacturing costs, delay deliveries, and adversely affect the competitiveness of Punjab's industries. He stated that the industry is already facing multiple challenges, including rising input costs and stiff competition from other states. Imposing night-time power cuts at this stage will further burden industrial units and negatively impact employment and economic activity.
FICO has urged the Punjab Government and the Power Department to immediately review and withdraw the night power restrictions for industries. The organization appealed that uninterrupted power supply is essential for sustaining industrial growth, boosting exports, and maintaining Punjab's industrial competitiveness.
