Ludhiana, June 26, 2025: Sanjeev Arora, the Aam Aadmi Party’s newly elected representative from Ludhiana (West), will take oath as Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly at Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh on June 28 at 11 a.m.
Arora emerged victorious in the by-election held on June 19, which was necessitated following the demise of sitting MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. He secured a decisive win, defeating Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu by a margin of 10,637 votes. Arora received 35,179 votes, while Ashu and BJP’s Jiwan Gupta polled 24,542 and 20,323 votes respectively.
Currently serving as a Rajya Sabha MP since April 2022, Arora will have to vacate his Upper House seat upon formally assuming office as MLA.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has already hinted at inducting Arora into the state cabinet. This move is seen as a step toward fulfilling a key electoral assurance made by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal during the campaign.
