Sanjeev Arora Leads in Round 1 of Ludhiana (West) Bypoll Counting

In the first round of counting for the Ludhiana (West) Assembly by-election, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora has taken a significant early lead, securing 2,895 votes out of the total 6,570 votes polled so far.

Ludhiana, June 23, 2025: In the first round of counting for the Ludhiana (West) Assembly by-election, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora has taken a significant early lead, securing 2,895 votes out of the total 6,570 votes polled so far.
Among the major contenders, Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu is in second place with 1,626 votes, followed by Jiwan Gupta of the BJP, who has received 1,177 votes. Shiromani Akali Dal's Advocate Parupkar Singh Ghuman has polled 703 votes, placing fourth.
Other candidates and their vote count in Round 1 are as follows:

•    Navneet Kumar Gopi (SAD-M): 8
•    Albert Dua Anu (IND): 32
•    Gurdeep Singh Kahlon (IND): 3
•    Neetu (IND): 4
•    Engineer Paramjit Singh Bharaj (IND): 2
•    Pawandeep Singh (IND): 4
•    Er. Baldev Raj Katna (Debi) (IND): 18
•    Rajesh Sharma (IND): 14
•    Renu (IND): 12
Meanwhile, NOTA (None of the Above) was selected by 51 voters.
With a strong start, Sanjeev Arora is clearly ahead as counting progresses. However, final results will depend on subsequent rounds. The bypoll has attracted attention as a high-stakes contest among key political parties in Punjab.

There will be a total 14 rounds of coutning. 

The counting of votes began at 8 o'clock this morning.
