Sanjay Tandon highlights BJP’s commitment to social inclusion and Dr Ambedkar’s legacy

Chandigarh, April 12, 2026: Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon on Sunday attended a programme at the residence of Haryana Minister Krishna Bedi, where three buses carrying devotees from the tricity were flagged off for a visit to 26, Alipur Road in Delhi, one of the Panch Teerths associated with Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar, on the eve of Ambedkar Jayanti.

Addressing the gathering, Tandon underscored the significance of honouring Dr Ambedkar’s legacy, noting that while his contributions were long overlooked by previous governments, it was under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi that five key sites associated with his life were developed as ‘Panch Teerth’ including his birthplace, place of education, the place where he embraced Buddhism, residence in Delhi where he passed away & the site in Mumbai - where he was laid to rest .

Tandon highlighted the BJP government’s consistent efforts to empower historically underrepresented communities. Citing the elevation of Shri Ram Nath Kovind, a member of the Scheduled Caste community, to the highest constitutional office, he said it sent a powerful message of inclusion and recognition. He further pointed to the election of Smt Droupadi Murmu, an Adivasi woman, as President, calling it a landmark step in acknowledging the contributions of tribal communities to the nation.

Emphasizing women’s empowerment, Tandon referred to the landmark Women’s Reservation Bill or Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which provides for 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies.

“Women leaders bring invaluable perspectives rooted in lived experiences, particularly on critical issues such as healthcare, education, safety, and economic empowerment. Their enhanced participation will enrich legislative outcomes and strengthen democratic institutions,” he added.

Tandon further underlined that the legislation is not merely a policy intervention but a catalyst for societal transformation. He said that empowering women in leadership roles would inspire millions of young girls across the country to aspire, participate, and lead in all spheres of life.

“This historic decision ensures that women, who constitute nearly half of our population but have remained underrepresented in political forums, will now have a stronger and more equitable voice in governance,” he said, describing it as a “transformational gift” to the women of India.

Notably, a special three-day Parliament session is scheduled from April 16–18, 2026, to amend the 2023 Women’s Reservation Act, aiming to accelerate the implementation of 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The proposed amendments plan to increase Lok Sabha seats to 816, with 273 reserved for women.
Tandon concluded that these initiatives reflect the Modi Government’s commitment to inclusive development and equitable representation, ensuring that every segment of society is recognized, respected and empowered.
