RS.15 crore to be spent on construction of veterinary hospitals- Ranike

Chandigarh, July 25, 2013: To provide better health care and breeding facilities to the indigenous and exotic animals being reared by the farmers of the state, the Punjab Government has decided to construct the buildings at tehsil and block level veterinary hospitals in the state. The project, approved by NABARD at a total cost of 3663.47 lac and an outlay of Rs. 15.00 crore has been provided in the Annual plan 2013-14, for up gradation of these institutions.

Disclosing this here today, Animal Husbandry Minister, Punjab Gulzar Singh Ranike said that the department has a well-knit network of 1367 veterinary hospitals out of which 585 have been transferred to Zila Parishads. Presently the buildings of many of these hospitals are in a dilapidated condition and few of them are on the verge of collapse.

The minister further said that new buildings of 19 veterinary hospitals have been completed under RIDF XIII project and new buildings of 14 tehsil level and 34 block level veterinary hospitals are under construction in keeping with the latest building plans to provide better services to the livestock farmers at village levels. He said that besides this, the services of sero-monitoring and diagnosis are also being given to the livestock owners for saving the precious livestock wealth from many infectious diseases.
