Rs 9.60 lakh fine charged in 20 cases of thefts and UUE in Sahnewal, Khanna and Gobindgarh

Ludhiana, May 28, 2022: The Enforcement wing of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has imposed a fine worth Rs 9.60 lakh on 20 consumers for theft of electricity and unauthorized use of electricity (UUE) during a mass raid conducted at Sub Division Sahnewal on May 27.

According to the spokesperson of PSPCL, six teams of the enforcement wing were formed to check the connections. During the raid, the teams checked around 150 connections and found a total of 20 cases of direct theft and UUE in Sahnewal, Khanna and Gobindgarh areas. The teams have charged Rs 9 lakh for theft and Rs 60,000 for UUE.

Punjab power minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant  Mann is committed to control the menace of power theft in the state and there are clear instructions from CM Bhagwant  Mann to the PSPCL authorities that they are to take strict action against the consumers using illegal connections to end the power theft menace in the state.

Power minister said that the teams of the enforcement wing are conducting regular checking in all zones of PSPCL and are imposing fines on the consumers who are found stealing power through Kundi connections or are using power in an unauthorized way.

The Spokesperson of PSPCL appealed to all its esteemed consumers to help authorities in controlling the menace of theft of electricity.
