Under the Disaster Grant of Rotary International District 3090, modern toilet blocks constructed in two government schools of flood-affected villages in the Ferozepur region were formally inaugurated and handed over on Thursday.
Ferozepur, April 30, 2026: Under the Disaster Grant of Rotary International District 3090, modern toilet blocks constructed in two government schools of flood-affected villages in the Ferozepur region were formally inaugurated and handed over on Thursday.
The facilities were inaugurated by District Governor Rtn. Bhupesh Mehta, marking a significant step towards restoring basic infrastructure in schools that were severely impacted by last year’s floods. The newly constructed toilet blocks have been set up in Government Senior Secondary School, Dhiraghara, and Government High School, Rukne Wala, ensuring safe and hygienic sanitation facilities for students.
Rotary, a global service organisation operating in nearly 220 countries with around 1.5 million members, has been actively engaged in humanitarian initiatives. Continuing this commitment, Rotary International District 3090 undertook the reconstruction of damaged school infrastructure in the flood-affected belt of Ferozepur.
It is pertinent to mention that following heavy rainfall last year, the Sutlej river witnessed a sharp rise in water levels, leading to widespread flooding across Ferozepur and Fazilka districts. The floods disrupted normal life for months and caused extensive damage to public infrastructure, including school buildings and sanitation facilities.
District Governor Rtn. Bhupesh Mehta said that the project was executed with financial support under a Disaster Grant from Rotary International, with an estimated expenditure of around ₹6 lakh. He further informed that similar infrastructure projects are currently underway in schools across Fazilka district, adding that Rotary remains committed to extending all possible support in times of need.
Earlier, Rotary had also carried out extensive relief operations in the flood-affected areas of Ferozepur, including providing financial assistance of nearly ₹10 lakh towards students’ school fees. In addition, around 500 blankets and nearly 100 mattresses were distributed among affected families to help them cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
Prominent Rotarians and officials present on the occasion included Past District Governor Rtn. Prem Aggarwal, Past District Governor Rtn. Vijay Arora, Deputy DEO Dr. Satinder Singh, Assistant Governor Rtn. Vijay Monga, State Coordinator Rakesh Chawla, along with representatives of various Rotary Clubs of Ferozepur and other dignitaries.
At the conclusion of the programme, Principal Gurvinder Singh of Government Senior Secondary School, Dhiraghara, and Principal Monica Moga of Government High School, Rukne Wala, expressed their gratitude to Rotary for the initiative, stating that the newly constructed facilities would greatly benefit students and improve overall sanitation standards in the schools.
