Road Safety Month: Major Road Safety Measures Implemented in Ludhiana under the Leadership of Deputy Commissioner

As part of the Road Safety Month preparations, the District Administration, Ludhiana, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, in coordination with the Road Safety Committee, has undertaken extensive road safety and enforcement initiatives across the district to reduce accidents and strengthen traffic discipline. These measures have been implemented with active support of Traffic Police Ludhiana, Transport Department (RTO/DTO/RTA), Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, PWD (B&R), NHAI, GLADA and PPCB, along with other concerned departments.

Road Safety Month: Major Road Safety Measures Implemented in Ludhiana under the Leadership of Deputy Commissioner

Ludhiana, January 15, 2026: As part of the Road Safety Month preparations, the District Administration, Ludhiana, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, in coordination with the Road Safety Committee, has undertaken extensive road safety and enforcement initiatives across the district to reduce accidents and strengthen traffic discipline. These measures have been implemented with active support of Traffic Police Ludhiana, Transport Department (RTO/DTO/RTA), Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, PWD (B&R), NHAI, GLADA and PPCB, along with other concerned departments.

Key Enforcement Measures:
Daily vehicle checking has been strengthened to a minimum of 10 vehicles per day w.e.f. 31st December 2025, covering RC/Registration, permits, Safe Vahan Scheme compliance and other safety norms. A uniform reporting mechanism has been ensured and daily compliance reports are being compiled for monitoring.

Safe School Vahan Policy (SSVP) – Strict Compliance:
Strict implementation of SSVP has been ensured and enforcement intensified against violations. Special checking on 14.01.2026 resulted in 06 school buses checked and 01 challan issued, ensuring enhanced safety for school children.

Challaning Drive – Strong Action Taken:
Traffic Police Ludhiana has intensified challaning action. As per compliance of the Road Safety Committee meeting held on 30.12.2025, a total of 97 challans were issued from 30.12.2025 to 14.01.2026 to improve traffic discipline.

PUC & Pollution Enforcement:
Compliance of PUC norms has been ensured and action taken against vehicles violating pollution and fog-emission norms.

Emergency Road Safety Strengthening:
Installation of reflectors, blinkers, barricades, cat eyes and other road safety furniture has been ensured at vulnerable and accident-prone points. Special focus has been given to Canal Road near Verka Milk Plant and in front of the Bus Stand, where blinkers and zebra crossings have been provided.

Commercial & Agricultural Vehicle Visibility:
Reflector tapes have been implemented on commercial vehicles, tractor-trolleys and agricultural machinery, especially for night and fog conditions.
Major Road Improvement Works:

Road safety improvement works have been undertaken on major stretches including NH-44 and Sidhwan Canal Road, focusing on signage, road furniture and high-risk points.

Road Safety Awareness Campaigns:
Traffic Police Ludhiana conducted special awareness activities, including installation of safety devices on two-wheelers to prevent injuries from ‘plastic dori’, along with sensitization on safe driving habits.

Traffic Decongestion at Key Junction:
At Atam Park Chowk, infrastructure improvements including central verge and spring posts have been installed to streamline traffic movement and reduce congestion.

NH-05A (Jalandhar–Ladowal Bypass) – Special Safety Interventions:
Speed calming measures were ensured at all bridges and Ladowal exit point, along with installation of direction boards at new canal bridges, cautionary sign boards, removal of bushes/vegetation for better visibility, and installation of cat eyes before bridges and at T-junction/T-table points.

The newly built 04 bridges have been regulated with proper road furniture for safe movement, particularly for U-turn operations. The accident-prone median opening just after the canal bridge near Sri Ram School is being addressed with GLADA/PWD, and corrective measures will be undertaken after rectification of the underpass road with appropriate signage.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the District Administration’s firm commitment towards ensuring safer roads for all citizens and stated that strict monitoring and enforcement will continue in the larger public interest.
