Review of Preparedness for Phase-II of Census 2027 – District Ludhiana

Ludhiana, August 31, 2026: A review meeting to assess the preparedness for Phase-II (Population Enumeration) of Census 2027 in respect of District Ludhiana was convened on 31st August, 2026 at District Administrative Complex, Ludhiana, under the chairmanship of Dr. Navjot Khosa, Director, Census Operations, Punjab.
The meeting was attended by Shri Himanshu Jain, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer, Ludhiana; Ojasvi Alankar, Commissioner- Principal Census Officer, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, Shikha Bhagat, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Joint commissioner, Assistant Commissioners, Tehsildars, Charge Officers and other officers/officials entrusted with Census duties.
At the outset, the Director, Census Operations placed on record her appreciation for the dedicated efforts and commitment shown by the Charge Officers and field functionaries which led to successful and timely completion of Phase-I – House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) operations in the district, despite Ludhiana being the most populous district of the State.
While underscoring the significance of advance planning and seamless inter-departmental coordination, the Director directed that all pending activities relating to Census 2027 be completed strictly within the prescribed timelines. The commendable work carried out in high-priority and high-density charges and in areas under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana was specifically appreciated.
The Director further directed the Principal Census Officers and other Census Officers to ensure all requisite administrative and logistical arrangements and to remain fully prepared for smooth, efficient and effective conduct of Population Enumeration.
Himanshu Jain, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana assured that the District Administration, in close coordination with Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, would extend all necessary support and would ensure completion of all Census related activities within the stipulated timeframe, strictly in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India, to ensure collection of accurate, authentic and reliable data.
A detailed roadmap for timely and smooth conduct of Phase-II of Census 2027 was deliberated upon.
While reviewing the status of preparation of District Census Handbook (DCHB), the Director instructed all Charge Officers to expedite the compilation and vetting of Village Directory and Town Directory data along with preparation of maps and to ensure its completion in all respects before the prescribed last date i.e. September 8, 2026.
The Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officers assured that the DCHB exercise as well as preparatory works for Phase-II would be completed within the prescribed timeline and all requisite assistance would be provided to Charge Officers for accurate data collection and compilation.
