Resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia not a good signal for the Congress Party
Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Finally, stage is set for former Member Parliament Jyotiraditya Scindia to join BJP. He has already submitted his written resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. In his resignation letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi on March 9, 2020, Scindia wrote stating that “Having been a primary member of the Congress Party for the last years, it is now time for me to move on. I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress and as you well know, this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last year. While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning, to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within this party. To reflect and realise the aspirations of my people and my workers I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start. I would like to thank you and through you all my party colleagues for providing me with a platform to have served the nation." The words he chose to wrote in his resignation letter categorically narrate his “inner pain and sufferings” while remaining within the Congress party. His resignation letter itself clearly states that he was greatly unhappy with the treatment given to him by the Congress Party high command. It clearly indicates that he was not being allowed to work independently according to his wishes. Perhaps his supporters and several party workers were also feeling side-lined after being ignored their own leader- Jyotiraditya Scindia by the Congress party high command. No doubt, he has been annoyed with the Congress Party high command for the last about one and a half years ago after the formation of the Kamal Nath Government in Madhya Pradesh. He had worked hard for the victory of the Congress Party in the assembly elections following which he was a strong contender for the post of chief minister. But, his name was dropped by the Congress Party high command at the last moment to give chance to the party’s veteran leader Kamal Nath. That decision of the Congress Party really gave a setback to Jyotiraditya Scindia and his staunch supporters. However, he kept buried all of his emotions and aspirations in his heart. But for how long he should have been done this. He had to take a strong and final decision and the day finally came today.
It was this morning (March 10, 2020) when he along with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting remain continued for about an hour following which Scindia’s resignation came to the limelight. BJP is still to announce his induction into the party. It is expected that his entry into the party may be announced possibly by this evening (March 10, 2020). The time will tell as to what kind of “responsibility” he is to be given in the BJP either in the State or the Centre. However, the media report strongly believes that he may be given the Rajya Sabha ticket because there are very less chances of his becoming the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. BJP would never try to annoy its own party cadre by giving preference to Jyotiraditya Scindia in place of Shivraj Singh Chouhan as far as the post of chief minister is concerned in Madhya Pradesh. All the political activities took place so speedily and BJP proved its edge over the situation as usual and the Congress high command was seen lagging behind it. The Congress president Sonia Gandhi immediately approved the expulsion of Jyotiraditya Scindia for “anti-party activities” only after Scindia’s resignation letter came to the limelight. His expulsion from the Congress Party was announced by the AICC general secretary KC Venugopal who, in a statement stated, “The Congress president has approved the expulsion of Jyotiraditya Scindia from the Indian National Congress with immediate effect for anti-party activities.”
Whatever it may be. But, it is sure that it is a certain political loss to the Congress party and a gain to the BJP. Jyotiraditya Scindia is not a small leader. He has spent 18 golden years of his life while working and strengthening the Congress Party. He has a strong hold in the politics of Madhya Pradesh. Besides, he has a name in the politics not only in his own State but across the country as well. It is a great failure of the Congress Party high command and the MP Chief Minister Kamal Nath who did make “timey’ efforts to get satisfy Scindia and remove his annoyance. The today’s political development is not a good signal for the Congress Party – the base of which has already eroded among the common masses over the period. Scindia’s loss also indicates that the Congress Party is lacking political will to tackle the crisis like situations. It is clear that whatever happed this morning, has not happened within a few hours or days. Everything has been boiling over the period. Had the Congress party high command taken timely action the situation might have been something different. Now, everyone is focusing on the developments taking place in the politics of Madhya Pradesh. Everything will depend on the number game of MLAs.
