Chandigarh/New Delhi, December 16, 2025: Emphatically raising in Parliament the crucial issue of changes in the Senate of Panjab University Chandigarh and depriving Punjab of the much needed flood relief package, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Lok Sabha Member from Sangrur Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that the Central Government should ensure the consent of the concerned states and representation of all states while taking any decision.
Meet Hayer, participating in the debate on the ‘Reappearing and Amendment Bill 2025’ in Parliament today, revealed that 71 acts are being amended which is the need of the hour to give equal share to all states.
AAP MP said that like as all states are represented in the GST council, similarly, states should be represented in other matters as well. This would go a long way in ensuring equitable distribution of funds to the states. Meet Hayer, while again raising the issue of the terrible floods in Punjab, roared that when the floods ravaged Bihar two years ago, a special package of Rs. 12000 Crore was given, but now Punjab has been discriminated against in this regard. Natural disasters do not occur anywhere by looking at whether there is a BJP government or a non-BJP government in that state, added Meet Hayer further articulating that there should be no bias while releasing funds.
Meet Hayer said that the Central Government recently didn't took the State of Punjab into confidence for effecting any changes in the Senate of Panjab University Chandigarh. The Central Government had to eventually withdraw the decision due to strong opposition from the state. According to the Punjab Reorganization Act, no decision regarding Panjab University can be taken without the consent of the State Government, thundered Meet Hayer.
Meet Hayer made a strong case for the inclusion of the representatives from all states in the committee that decides on the allocation of funds.
