Renowned playwrights and theatre personalities will gather at SUPVA on World Theatre Day

The country's renowned playwright and theatre artist will arrive today at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLCSUPVA). They will participate in the theatrical dialogue and discussion on World Theatre Day and guide the students. The discussion on the topic 'Theatre in the Current Context: The Impact of Digital Media and Technology' will be conducted in Studio-1 of the Film and Television Department.

Rohtak, March 26, 2026: The country's renowned playwright and theatre artist will arrive today at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLCSUPVA). They will participate in the theatrical dialogue and discussion on World Theatre Day and guide the students. The discussion on the topic 'Theatre in the Current Context: The Impact of Digital Media and Technology' will be conducted in Studio-1 of the Film and Television Department.
FC Mahesh TP of the Film and Television Department informed that among those visiting SUPVA are Padma Shri Prof. Vaman Madhavrao Kendre, renowned playwright and writer Dr. Pratap Sehgal, and famous theatre artist and drama instructor Dr. Mrityunjay Prabhakar. Padma Shri Vaman Kendre has also served as the director of the National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi. He is known in India and abroad for creating a strong platform through theatre and for sensibly presenting the pain of neglected and marginalized sections (people) of society through it.
Dr. Pratap Sehgal is known as a poet, playwright, storyteller, and critic. He was born in 1945 in the Jhang region of Western Punjab (now in Pakistan). His early education took place in Rohtak and middle and higher education in Delhi. For nearly 40 years, he taught undergraduate and postgraduate classes and guided research work. Countless plays written by him continue to be staged across the country.
Dr. Mrityunjay Prabhakar, besides being a renowned theatre artist and drama instructor, is also a professor in the Department of Drama at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Delhi. He has written more than 50 plays and books. He is also the founder-director of the theatre group 'SEHAR'.
Mahesh TP explained that in 1961, the International Theatre Institute was established to celebrate World Theatre Day worldwide and to highlight its importance. Since 1962, World Theatre Day has been celebrated every year on March 27. This day reminds us of the essence, beauty, and importance of theatre art and the significant role of theatre artists in entertainment.
