Chandigarh, May 12, 2026: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, strongly reacted to the CBI raid conducted at the Punjab Vigilance Bureau headquarters, targeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party government. He said that the incident is extremely shameful for the entire state of Punjab and has exposed the hollow claims of the government regarding its anti-corruption stance. He added that after gangsters, the Vigilance headquarters in Punjab has now become a center of corruption and extortion.
Randhawa said that this is the first time in Punjab’s history that a central agency has conducted a raid at the Vigilance headquarters. He stated that the incident has brought shame to the state and that the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government is responsible for it. He demanded a fair and transparent investigation into the matter and said the government must clearly explain to the people how the situation deteriorated to this extent.
Randhawa said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself oversees the Vigilance Department and repeatedly speaks about “Zero Tolerance Against Corruption,” but now the CBI raid at the headquarters of the same department raises serious questions about the functioning of the government. He added that this is not merely an administrative failure, but a major blot on the credibility of the Punjab government.
He further said that before coming to power, the Aam Aadmi Party projected itself as a symbol of honest politics, but today the situation has worsened to the extent that investigative agencies have had to directly reach the Vigilance headquarters. Randhawa remarked that the people of Punjab had voted for change and transparency, but are now witnessing an atmosphere of disappointment and distrust.
Randhawa reiterated the demand for a fair and transparent investigation into the entire matter and said the government must explain to the public why such a situation arose. He added that if departments of a government that claims to fight corruption themselves come under suspicion, it becomes a matter of concern for both democracy and governance.
