Violence at Hazur Sahib Is Unacceptable: Justice Must Prevail After Sukhbir Badal Kirpan Attack- Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan

Ludhiana, August 14, 2026: National Youth Leader and Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan, speaking from his Residence-cum-Camp Office, Gurpreet Nagar, Daba, Ludhiana South Legislative Assembly Constituency, Ludhiana, today strongly, unequivocally and in the strongest possible words condemned the reported shameful kirpan attack on Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal at Takht Sahib Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib Gurdwara in Maharashtra, in the presence of Harsimrat Kaur Badal and her family.
Grewal wrote on his social media account on X that an incident of this nature is deeply painful, disturbing and completely unacceptable to every peace-loving Sikh, Punjabi and Indian. He said that a Gurdwara Sahib is not merely a physical place; it is a sacred spiritual institution of the Sikh Panth, a place of prayer, humility, seva, equality, peace and divine reflection. Any act of violence within or around such a sacred institution strikes at the dignity and sanctity of the entire Sikh community.
He said that political differences can exist, ideological disagreements can exist and people can have different opinions, but no disagreement can ever become an excuse for violence, intimidation, aggression or physical assault. Democracy gives every citizen the right to disagree, protest and express an opinion peacefully, but nobody has the right to take the law into his own hands.
Grewal told that the sanctity of Takht Sahib Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib must be respected by every individual, irrespective of political affiliation, personal differences or ideological beliefs. He said that sacred Gurdwara Sahibans must never become places for political confrontation, personal vendetta or violent behaviour.
He further said that the reported incident is not something that should be reduced to a routine political controversy. It is a serious matter concerning public safety, religious dignity, the sanctity of a historic Sikh institution and the rule of law. Such incidents have the potential to create fear, anger and division among ordinary people, and therefore they must be handled with maturity, sensitivity and firmness.
Grewal strongly appealed to the Government of Maharashtra, Maharashtra Police and all concerned law-enforcement authorities to immediately identify the person responsible, secure and preserve every available piece of evidence, examine all relevant CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, conduct a completely fair, impartial and transparent investigation, and take strict legal action against anyone found responsible.
He said that the investigation must be conducted without fear, favour, political pressure or discrimination. The law must speak for itself, and whoever is found guilty must face the full consequences of the law.
Grewal said, “Nobody should be above the law. Neither political influence nor personal status nor public position can ever justify violence. At the same time, nobody should be falsely targeted merely because of political differences. Justice must be based upon evidence, facts and law.”
He appealed to Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, the Akal Takht Sahib, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Dal Khalsa, the Sikh Coalition, United Sikhs, Sikh Federation, SikhNet, World Sikh Organisation, Sikh Media, Sikh Council UK, Khalsa Aid, Sikh24 News and the entire worldwide Sikh community to stand united for the sanctity of Gurdwara Sahibans, peace, dignity, justice and the rule of law.
He said that at this sensitive moment, the Sikh community must demonstrate its traditional strength through discipline, wisdom, restraint, unity and peaceful conduct. Anger is understandable when a sacred institution is involved, but anger must never be permitted to turn into further violence.
Grewal appealed to Punjabis across all political parties and ideological lines to remain calm, peaceful and united. He said that Punjab and the Sikh community have a proud history of courage, sacrifice, justice and humanity, and this heritage must never be allowed to be overshadowed by violence or hatred.
He further said that Punjab must never be allowed to return to the dark politics of violence, intimidation and revenge. Political battles must be fought through democratic institutions, public dialogue, elections, constitutional methods and peaceful expression, not through weapons or physical attacks.
Grewal said that every political leader, religious institution, social organisation and responsible citizen has a duty to send one clear message to society: we reject violence, we reject intimidation, we reject political vengeance, we stand for peace, justice and the sanctity of Gurdwara Sahib, and we stand firmly for the rule of law.
He said that the dignity of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Harsimrat Kaur Badal and their family must be respected, just as the dignity and safety of every citizen must be protected. Grewal prayed for the well-being, safety and strength of everyone affected by the incident and expressed hope that the truth would emerge through a proper investigation.
Grewal also appealed to the national and international media to report the matter responsibly, sensitively and factually, without sensationalism or attempts to inflame communal, religious or political tensions.
Grewal said that truth, justice and peace must prevail over anger, propaganda and political provocation. He appealed to every Punjabi, every Sikh and every responsible citizen to reject rumours, inflammatory messages and retaliatory violence.
Grewal said, “Our faith teaches us courage, but it also teaches us compassion. Our history teaches us to stand against injustice, but it also teaches us discipline and restraint. Let the law take its course. Let the truth come out. Let justice prevail. But let no innocent person be targeted, let no sacred place be dragged into violence, and let no political disagreement destroy the peace of our society.”
He further said, “The sanctity of Gurdwara Sahib is sacred to all of us. We must protect it with dignity, wisdom, unity and peaceful conduct. Violence can never be the answer.”
