Chandigarh, June 2, 2026: Political sparring between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress over education has intensified in Punjab. Senior Congress leader and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has questioned AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal over his claim that major improvements in Punjab’s education sector are the result of the AAP government’s efforts.
Sharing a post on the social media platform X, Randhawa said that Punjab had already become the No. 1 state in the country in school education during the Congress government’s tenure in 2019–20. He stated that AAP was also in power in Delhi at that time, yet Delhi ranked behind Punjab in educational performance. The Congress leader further claimed that Punjab maintained its strong position in 2021–22 as well.
According to MP Randhawa, Punjab secured second place in the country for the third consecutive year with a score of 647.4, while Chandigarh topped the rankings with 659 points. He argued that these figures clearly demonstrate that improvements in Punjab’s education system had already begun during the Congress government’s tenure.
Addressing Kejriwal, Randhawa advised him to rely on facts rather than political publicity. He wrote, “Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, facts speak, not propaganda.”
The Congress statement comes at a time when AAP is highlighting its work in the education and healthcare sectors in Punjab as some of its key achievements. Meanwhile, Congress continues to maintain that the foundations of Punjab’s strong education system were laid during its own tenure in government.
This political debate over education is likely to intensify in the coming months, as education and development remain major electoral issues in Punjab politics.
