Bathinda: “Epilepsy is a manageable neurological disorder, yet social stigma and lack of awareness often prevent patients from seeking timely treatment. On Purple Day, it is important to educate people that epilepsy is neither contagious nor a mental illness. With proper medical care, patients can lead completely normal lives.”
Dr. Pallav Jain, senior consultant neurology at Max Hospital Bathinda said, “Early diagnosis plays a critical role in controlling seizures and improving quality of life. “Ignoring symptoms such as repeated seizures, sudden confusion, or loss of awareness can delay treatment and increase risks. Timely consultation with a neurologist can make a significant difference.”
Highlighting the significance of Purple Day, Dr. Jain also addressed common myths around seizure management.
He said, “During a seizure, people often take incorrect actions such as restraining the patient or putting objects in their mouth, which can be harmful. The right approach is to ensure the person is safe, turn them on their side, and seek medical help if needed.”
