Ludhiana, September 1, 2025: National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce a Special Relief Package for Punjab, following the widespread devastation caused by heavy rains and floods across the state.
Grewal said that Punjab, considered the backbone of India’s food security, has been badly hit by relentless downpours, worsened by excessive rainfall in the upper hilly regions. “Thousands of acres of crops in Majha, Doaba and Malwa regions now lie submerged, families have been displaced, precious lives lost, and livelihoods completely shattered,” he stated.
In his letter to the Prime Minister, Grewal has urged the Central Government to deploy assessment teams in Punjab and extend immediate compensation to the deceased families and affected farmers. He has also sought a long-term flood management plan to protect the state from recurring disasters.
While appreciating the ongoing efforts of the Central Government and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Grewal said the scale of the calamity demands urgent and additional intervention. He added that timely action under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would bring hope and relief to lakhs of affected Punjabis.
Swift support from the Centre will not only help Punjab recover but also strengthen the nation’s food security. With faith in the compassion of Bharat’s leadership, I am confident Punjab will rise again, stronger than before, Grewal said.
