Punjab Government targets 3 lakh daily enrolments, Health Minister vows to enrol all Punjabis under MMSY in next three months
State has already released Rs 500 crores to insurance partner; Jagraon emerges as leading constituency in Punjab
Ludhiana, February 20, 2026: Punjab’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Friday declared that the state government is on track to provide every Punjabi with a Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna (MMSY) health card within the next three months. The ambitious drive aims to deliver universal cashless health insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh per family annually to the entire population of Punjab.
Speaking to the media after a detailed review of MMSY, the Minister was accompanied by MLAs Sarvjit Kaur Manuke, Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina, Madan Lal Bagga and Kulwant Singh Sidhu, AAP senior leader Dr KNS Kang along with Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, Dr Balbir Singh described MMSY as a one-of-its-kind universal scheme that removes all income barriers, ensuring every Punjabi can access quality cashless treatment at empanelled government and private hospitals without financial burden.
The Minister revealed that the enrolment process has gained tremendous momentum. At present, approximately 60,000 health cards are being issued every day, and the government is now pushing to achieve an average of 3 lakh enrolments daily. So far, around 9 lakh health cards have already been distributed across the state. To accelerate the pace further, additional manpower is being deployed, more enrolment machinery is being installed, and the number of registration camps is being significantly increased in the coming days.
Dr Balbir Singh emphasized that this massive outreach is a collaborative effort involving district administrations, MLAs, councillors and a large number of dedicated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers who are working tirelessly at the grassroots level to ensure speedy and inclusive coverage. He specially highlighted Jagraon as the top-performing constituency in Punjab, leading the state in the maximum number of enrolments under the scheme.
On the financial front, the Punjab government has already released Rs 500 crores to the insurance partner. Strict instructions have been issued to ensure that all empanelled hospitals receive their payments within 21 days. The Minister confirmed that there is currently no pendency of dues to hospitals up to January 31, 2026, providing complete assurance to healthcare providers.
Singh highlighted that the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna covers a comprehensive range of medical services including hospitalization, surgeries, diagnostics, medicines and pre- and post-hospitalization expenses, all on a completely cashless basis. Punjab residents possessing Aadhaar and Voter ID can enrol easily at Common Service Centres, designated facilitation centres, camps or through the official online portal. He appealed to every eligible Punjabi to come forward and get enrolled without delay, reiterating that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen, not a privilege. He also encouraged youth, particularly those equipped with laptops, to join the enrolment teams and contribute to this historic mission of universal health coverage. For enrolment, eligibility verification or further information, residents are advised to visit the nearest Common Service Centre, health facility or local enrolment camp.
Earlier in the day, Dr Balbir Singh visited various departments of the Civil Hospital, including the ICU, stroke ward, emergency and other wards. He personally interacted with patients, listened to their experiences and collected direct feedback about the implementation and benefits of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna.
