Punjab announces trials for admission in PIS and Sports Wings

Chandigarh, April 9, 2015: The Punjab Government has announced the trials for admission in Punjab Institute of Sports and various sports wings in schools (Boarding and Day Scholar) for 2015-16 sessions.

The spokesman of the Punjab sports Department today said that trials would be held from April 11 to 24, where under 14 category players who were born between 2002-04 would be eligible for trials whereas for under 17 category, candidates should have the birth date after January 1999.  For Under 19 category, candidates born after January 1997 would be eligible for trials. The selected players would be provided Rs. 200 per day for refreshment, Residence, Sports kits and coaching.

Talking about the trial dates, the spokesman said that for admission in sports wings (Boys and Girls) in weightlifting for all under14,17 and 19 category, trials of boys would be held Ramgaria Senior Secondary school , Phagwara on April 11, whereas trials in the same category and events for girls would be held on April 12 at A.S.Senior Secondary school, Khanna. In athletics event, trials of both boys and girls would take place at Guru Nanak Stadium on April 12. Hans Raj Stadium and Sports School Jalandhar would witness the selection process on April 15 and 16 in Badminton, Table Tennis, wrestling, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho and Gymnastic events besides that the hockey trials at Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey stadium, Jalandhar on same days.

In the events like Vollybaall, Baskitball, Handbaall and Boxing, Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana would host the trials on April 17 and 18. To facilitate the players, cycling trials would be held at various Universities. Cycling trials would be conducted on April 16 for the sportspersons from Amritsar, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar in the Velodrome of Guru Nanak Dev University campus Amritsar. On April 17 trials will be held at Velodrome in Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana for the sportspersons belonging to Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Fazilka, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda and Barnala while trials for Patiala, Mansa, Fatehgarh Sahib, Roop Nagar, Sangrur and Mohali districts will be conducted at Cycling velodrome of Punjabi University Patiala.    

Football trials will be conducted on April 18 at Rurka Kalan, Jalandhar whereas swimming trials will be held on April 20 at Swimming pool Roop Nagar.

The Spokesperson informed that for sports wing girls under 17 and 19 athletic, hockey, hand ball, judo and trials will be held at Government girls senior secondary school, Kairon Tarn Taran on April 22.  Likewise, Hockey trials will also be conducted in Guru Arjan Dev School (Girls) in Tarn Taran on April 22.  The spokesman said that trails of Athletics, Basketball, Gymnastic and Weight lifting will be held at Government Senior Secondary School (Girls) Mall Road Amritsar for admission in academy whereas for Judo and Handball trails will be held at Guru Arjan Dev School (Girls) Tarn Taran on April 23.  He said women players of Athletics, basketball, volleyball and judo will be selected for Sports Wing on April 24 at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden, Jalandhar.

The spokesman said that eligible sportsmen/women should report to concerned District Sports Officers at their trial spots at 8 am for registration.
