PU Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival Enters Day-3

PU Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival (Third Day) at Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, September 24, 2015: The four-day PU Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival reached its third day amid exhilaration and verve. Dr.M.S.Kang, Former Vice-Chancellor of PAU, graced the occasion as chief guest and Dr.Narinjan Tasneem, recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan Dr.S.S.Johl, Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, as the guests of honour for the morning session. S. Gurmeet Singh Kular, Chairman, United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association, and S. Surinder Singh Bhogal, M. D., Bhogal Sales Corporation and Chairman Confederation of Indian Industries, also presided over the session. S. Ravneet Singh Bittu, M. P., presided over the evening session as chief guest and S. Navdeep Singh, Programme Executive, All India Radio, F. M. Gold, Ldh, Dr. Harish Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU and Dr. B. S. Shah as the guests of Honour. Malkiat Singh Dakha, Ex MLA, and Prof. Gurbhajan Gill, Former President of Punjabi Sahit Academy also marked their presence on the occasion. Dr (Mrs.) Narinder Sandhu, Principal, S. Ranjodh Singh, President, S. Jagtar Singh, General Secretary, accorded a hearty welcome to the eminent guests. To commence the day in the name of the Almighty, the students of the college recited shabad in their mellifluous voices. The third day was the day of theatre items, namely, One Act Play, Mime, Histrionics, Skit, Mimicry, Bhand; the newly introduced Folk Heritage Art items like Guddian Patole Making, Chhikku Making, Pranda Making, Naala Making, Tokri Making, Mitti De Khidaune, Khiddo Making, Peerhi Making, Rassa Vattna and Eennu Making and Quiz. Spectacular performances were witnessed in every item. Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director of the Dept. of Youth Welfare, said that the objective of organising theatre items, Folk Heritage Art and Quiz is to create awareness among the college students and the same has been duly achieved with the spectacular performances by the participants. The hon’ble guests admired the immensity of the talent of the students and congratulated them on achieving such a level of excellence. Dr (Mrs.) Narinder Sandhu acknowledged the endeavours put in by the zealous participants and congratulated the prize winners. She further added that whereas the theatre items hinted at the social evils that our society is infested with, the items under Folk Heritage Art enabled the youth to connect to their roots and celebrate the rich heritage bestowed on the people of Punjab. S. Ranjodh Singh appreciated the decision of the Dept. of Youth Welfare, PU, to introduce such items that keep the Punjabi culture alive. He also lauded the stupendous show put up by the youth. S. Jagtar Singh said that the thought-provoking performances of the day took the festival to another level. The day concluded with a vote of thanks by him.
