PU to Rename Arts Block–3 as “Dr Manmohan Singh Hall”

Chandigarh, April 22, 2025: Noted author Daman Singh will deliver the prestigious Panjab University Colloquium lecture on the topic “Dr Manmohan Singh: The Quintessential Scholar” on 25 April at 11:00 AM at the Panjab University Auditorium, Sector 14, Chandigarh.

This special lecture coincides with the renaming of Arts Block–3 on the PU campus as “Dr Manmohan Singh Hall”, and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in honour of Panjab University alumnus and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
The daughter of Dr Singh, Daman Singh is the author of Strictly Personal: Manmohan & Gursharan, a moving biographical portrait of her parents that explores their shared journey through life, politics, and public service.

The PU Colloquium will be presided over by Vice Chancellor of Panjab University and Patron of the Colloquium Series, Professor Renu Vig.

Singh will share personal anecdotes and cherished memories, offering a heartfelt glimpse into the private world of one of India’s most respected statesmen. The public lecture will provide a rare personal and intellectual perspective on Dr Singh’s life, legacy, and values.

Daman Singh is an acclaimed author who worked extensively in rural development before becoming a full-time writer. She holds a degree in Mathematics from St Stephen’s College, Delhi, and a postgraduate qualification from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand. Her notable works of non-fiction include The Last Frontier: People and Forests in Mizoram, Strictly Personal: Manmohan & Gursharan, and Asylum: The Battle for Mental Healthcare in India. Her fiction includes the novels Nine by Nine, The Sacred Grove, and Kitty’s War.
