PU to host 5-Day International GIAN Workshop from 15 September
The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, is set to host a five-day International Workshop under the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) scheme from 15–19 September 2025.

Chandigarh, September 14, 2025: The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, is set to host a five-day International Workshop under the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) scheme from 15–19 September 2025.
Supported by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the workshop will be inaugurated on 15 September in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Chief Guest J. M. Balamurugan, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Defence Services Welfare, Government of Punjab; Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University; Prof. Yojna Rawat, Dean of University Instruction; and Prof. Y. P. Verma, Registrar, Panjab University. The initiative also partners with PSCST, PI-Rahi, DPIIT, CRICK, and IIC.
Organised by Dr Indu Pal Kaur, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences; DPIIT–IPR Chair; and Professor of Pharmaceutics at UIPS, the programme has drawn around 70 participants comprising postgraduate and doctoral students, faculty members, and industry representatives. The Local GIAN Coordinator is Professor Gurjaspreet Singh, Department of Chemistry, PU.
The GIAN workshop, entitled “Innovation Capitalized: Harnessing Licensing, Technology Transfer, and Product Expansion for Success”, will feature globally renowned foreign faculty, Professor Sanjay Garg from the University of Adelaide (Australia). Co-Director of the Centre for Pharmaceutical Innovation (CPI), Prof Garg has over 101 patents filed/secured and 14 globally launched products through licensed technologies.
The workshop will focus on guiding participants to protect intellectual property, share knowledge responsibly, and convert prototypes into viable products, in alignment with India’s innovation and entrepreneurship vision. Key themes include Foundations of Innovation and IP, Technology Transfer, Structuring Licensing Agreements, Market Surveys, Business Modelling, and Funding Strategies. Eminent experts from Panjab University and across India will lead deliberations.
Aligned with national initiatives such as Make in India, the prestigious programme is part of mission to translate research into products and services that contribute to societal progress and self-reliance.
