PU Gears Up to Implement NEP for Postgraduate Courses from 2026-27

Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has started to gear up for the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) for Post Graduate courses as PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, today chaired a meeting of Chairpersons to discuss its implementation for MA Research/MA Programme.

Chandigarh, August 28, 2025: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has started to gear up for the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) for Post Graduate courses as PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, today chaired a meeting of Chairpersons to discuss its implementation for MA Research/MA Programme.

 

Addressing the Chairpersons meeting, Prof. Renu Vig said that the National Education Policy (NEP) is a forward looking and transformative framework that will help in shaping a bright future of higher education in India. NEP seeks to prepare our students for the future challenges and diverse roles.

 

Prof. Vig said that Panjab University is proud to be among the first few leading universities in the country to have implemented NEP in a phased manner. Earlier, PU implemented this at Undergraduate level and from 2026-27, we intend to implement this at the Master’s programme level. This early adoption reflects our commitment to academic excellence and innovation in curriculum design. By aligning with the objectives of NEP, we aim to provide our students with an education that is contemporary, globally relevant, and deeply rooted in India’s knowledge traditions, she added.

 

The meeting discussed the modalities and regulations for awarding NEP compliant MA with research under Honours School System/MA under Honours School System/MA with Resesarch/MA Degrees by the University. It was informed that there will be two types of MAs- MA (Research) and MA (Course work), for which, there will be two duration options of two semesters (one year) and four semesters (two year). It will be credit based system of 40 and 80 credits for one year and two year respectively. The issues regarding governance of programme, types of papers, admission process, examination system, evaluation of theory, practical and desertation papers, formation of Research Advisory Committee in Colleges, mode of evaluation of desertation of papers, preparation of result and passing criteria & award of degrees were also discussed.

 

Dean of University Instruction Prof. Yojna Rawat, Director, Research and Development Cell Prof. Meenakshi Goyal, Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma, Controller of Examination Prof. Jagat Bhushan, Dean College Development Council Prof. Ravi Inder Singh, NEP Coordinator Prof. Anil Monga and chairpersons of University departments also participated in the meeting.
