PU BoF Meeting

Chandigarh: Panjab University(PU), Chandigarh in its Board of Finance(BoF) approved the recommendations of the committee regarding air travel for official purposes and LTC. The approval includes (i) The air travel through Air India shall be compulsory in only those cases where the reimbursement of travel expenditure is to be made out of Central Government funds. In other cases, the travel by private airlines (Economy class) shall be permitted.

However, the condition regarding booking of Air Tickets either through the website/booking counter of concerned Airline or by the Government approved agencies i.e. M/s Balmer & Lawrie, Ashoka Tour & Travels and IRCTC shall continue to be applicable. No reimbursement of Air Ticket shall be allowed if ticket is booked through any private agency/unauthorized travel agent. (ii) In case of LTC, the air travel through private airline (Cheapest economy class) shall be permitted subject to the condition that the reimbursement of air fare shall be limited upto an amount equivalent to Air India economy(S/T Air Fare) classes. 

The BoF deliberated on the issue of dismantling the existing 2nd floor of the building of Regional Centre, Kauni, the members resolved to immediately write to Punjab Government highlighting various hazards associated with the dilapidated condition of the existing building of Regional Centre, Kauni. 

The BoF discussed the letter received from Punjab Government regarding Secretariat Pay to University Employees which clearly states that the said pay be discontinued with immediate effect. However, the members opined to take up the issue with Punjab Government again for reconsideration, since, this is being implemented in PU for over 50 years. 

The BoF approved the budget of Rs.  8,40,200/- for the construction of washroom for staff room and language lab of Department of English & Cultural Studies, Rs. 7,78,400/- for provision of toilets with wards of Department of Oral Surgery (Ground Floor) of Dr. HSJ Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital in PU South Campus, Rs. 23,53,000/- for 13 passenger lift (Gearless with machine room), UIET Block II in PU Campus, Rs. 10,90,000/- for setting up library reading hall at UIAMS and Rs. 20,83,000/- for extension of pantry/toilets/driver room/projection of main guest house (GF) in PU Campus, Sector-14, Chandigarh. 

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU and other present in the meeting included Sh. J.S.Singh, Deputy Secretary, Finance, Sh. Harish, Special Secretary, Finance, UT, Sh. S.L.Bansal, Deputy Secretary, Finance, Government of Punjab, Dr. Surinder Pal, Government College, Mohali, Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instruction, Dr. Dalip Kumar, Associate Professor, Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh, Prof. Keshav Malhotra, Department of Evening Studies-MDRC, Sh. Ashok Goyal, PU Fellow, Prof. Navdeep Goyal, Department of Physics, Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar and Sh. Vikram Nayyar, Finance & Development Officer. 

PU VC requested the representatives of the UT to support PU with respect to the maintenance, upliftment and development of the PU Campus and also to release timely grants to PU. The Punjab Government representatives were also requested to release the grant due to PU with respect to post matric scholarships and other grants for PU especially for development purposes.
