Rohtak, April 10, 2026: Prof. Milap Punia , a distinguished geographer and Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, former Chairperson of Centre for the Study of Regional Development (CSRD), School of Social Science, is the new Vice Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak.
A notification regarding this was issued by Haryana Lok Bhawan today under the seal and sign of governor and chancellor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh.
Prof. Poonia's area of specialization is remote sensing, GIS, land use, and urban studies. His research work focuses on geospatial technologies for land use dynamics, urban heat islands, disaster governance, and environmental sustainability, with over 1,600 citations on Google Scholar.
Prof. Poonia began his academic career as Assistant Professor in the Higher Education Directorate, Government of Rajasthan (1998-2002), followed by a role as Scientist in the Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Division, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing.
Meanwhile, in another notification issued by Haryana Lok Bhawan today, Prof. Sandeep Bansal, Professor of Commerce, I.G.N. College, Ladwa has been appointed as Registrar of MDU, Rohtak; relieving Dr. Krishan Kant of the said charge, with immediate effect.
