Bathinda, July 27, 2023: Marking the occasion of three years of the National Education Policy-2020, the officials of Central University of Punjab organized a Press Conference on Thursday to share the University's step-by-step efforts towards the successful implementation of the NEP-2020 and its future roadmap.

During the event, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor of CU Punjab, along with university officials, unveiled a Handbook titled "Transforming Education through NEP-2020 Implementation: Accomplishments and Way Forward."

Speaking at the Press Conference, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor of CU Punjab, highlighted the vision of NEP-2020, which focuses on strengthening India's educational infrastructure and providing quality education accessible to every citizen, ultimately fostering the creation of a vibrant and knowledgeable society. He emphasized that the transformative reforms under NEP-2020 aim to cultivate responsible citizens equipped with global skills and ethics, contributing to Bharat's journey towards self-reliance (Aatm Nirbhar).

To achieve the desired transformation in higher education, CU Punjab has implemented several significant measures under NEP-2020 during the academic sessions 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. These measures include: Introduction of LOCF (Learning Outcome-Centric Framework) based multi-disciplinary, holistic, and flexible curricula; Digitization of Education with Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and National Academic Depository (NAD); Implementation of Multiple-Entry and Exit (MEE) options; Facilitating Credit Transfer through MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and adopting the National Credit Framework (NCrF); and Promotion of experiential learning through various activities such as internships, dissertations, community teaching, industry training, service learning, rural immersion modules, educational tours, and field trips.

Prof. Tiwari emphasized that the policy prioritizes outcome-based education with a focus on "How to Learn" rather than "What to Learn." In line with this approach, CU Punjab actively engages students in hands-on experiences, incorporating skill-based courses into the curriculum, which have been highly effective in nurturing the desired skills in students.
Prof. Tiwari shared that, in addition to scaling up the already implemented components of NEP-2020, CU Punjab has developed a set of Way Forward Strategies to actualize the vision of NEP-2020. These strategies include the introduction of new-age programs, as well as dual degree and joint degree programs, with the aim to expand opportunities in higher education and research. Moreover, the university is dedicated to fostering Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development, Universal Human Values, and Indian Knowledge Traditions, while also actively promoting community engagement through its curriculum. Furthermore, the university has set goals to increase the number of international students and transform into a research-centric institution.

The prominent persons present on this occasion include Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director IQAC; Prof. B.P. Garg, CoE and Registrar (I/c); Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean Student Welfare; Dr. Rajkumar Sharma, Finance Officer; Dr. Bawa Singh, and Dr. Ramanpreet Kaur.
