Ludhiana, August 24, 2025: Residents of Durgapuri and Haibowal Kalan localities in Ludhiana faced severe inconvenience on Sunday due to a prolonged power outage and was still not restored till the filing of this report at around 10:20 PM. The situation worsened in the evening when the water supply was also disrupted, adding to the woes of the people.
According to local residents, the electricity supply was snapped in the afternoon without any prior notice, and by late evening, power had not been restored. With no official communication from the electricity department, anxious residents were left in the dark about the cause of the breakdown and the expected time for restoration.
The outage not only created discomfort in the sweltering weather but also brought daily life to a standstill. Families reported difficulty in carrying out routine chores, while shopkeepers and small business owners complained of financial losses due to the sudden disruption. “We have been without electricity for several hours, and now the water supply is also hit. It has become extremely difficult to manage basic needs,” said a resident of Durgapuri.
Local residents also expressed frustration over the lack of prompt response from authorities. “Every time there is a technical snag, the PSPCL take hours to act, leaving the public helpless. We urge the administration to find a permanent solution,” said a homemaker from Haibowal Kalan.
Officials from the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) remained unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, residents are demanding swift restoration of both power supply, along with a clearer communication system to avoid such uncertainty in the future.
The complaint lodged at 15:31:13 by a resident through the PSPCL mobile app mentioned “normal fuse off call” as the reason for the outage. The affected area falls under the jurisdiction of PSPCL Sub-Division Tech.-III, Agar Nagar, and is supplied through the Haibowal feeder.
Residents further pointed out that power disruptions have become a recurring issue in the area, especially during the rains. Even a short spell of rain or a brief hailstorm is often followed by hours of power cuts, leaving people helpless. “This has become a routine problem every time the weather changes,” complained a resident, adding that the authorities need to strengthen the local power infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted supply during adverse weather conditions.
