Positive Media will create New India: Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi

New Delhi, September 2, 2021: “The fourth pillar of democracy is the media, which plays a critical role in the democratic system. Prior to independence, the media worked to raise societal consciousness. Today, positive media is required in the construction of a new India.” Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, Director General, Indian Institute of Mass Communication expressed this viewpoint during Jamia Millia Islamia's 'Hindi Pakhwada Celebrations.”  In the program Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan, HoD, Sanskrit Department of Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. Girish Chandra Pant and Hindi officer Dr. Rajesh Kumar Manjhi were also present.

Expressing his views on the topic 'Contribution of Hindi and Indian languages journalism in the freedom movement', Prof. Dwivedi said that when we imagine the era of slavery, where crores of people waited for a dawn of freedom for centuries, then we realize how historic the occasion of 75 years of independence is. He stated that journalism began in India with the objective of promoting the country's development. The goal of journalism is to safeguard the interests of ordinary citizens. There were many such journalists in our country who worked to sustain society's morale and self-confidence through their articles.

Prof. Dwivedi stated that if we look at the history of Indian journalism, we can see how it is connected with the evolution of the freedom movement. People were aware of the goal of obtaining independence as a result of the diverse role of newspapers.

The role of the media, according to the Director General of the IIMC, is to raise public awareness and opinion on any topic. The media play an important role in bringing the public's problems and concerns to the attention of the government. This is why, even today, people look to the media with optimism.

The seminar was attended by Jamia Millia Islamia professors, officers, and students.
