PM Modi's 25-year governance era marked by shift from 'fragile five' to global powerhouse: HM Shah

Mumbai, Sep 13 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's uninterrupted 25-year tenure as the Chief Minister and the country's Prime Minister from 2001 to 2026 has fundamentally transformed Gujarat and India, ending decades of administrative decay and replacing it with a clear "politics of performance".

Addressing a joint press conference alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Union Minister Shah outlined the structural overhaul achieved since 2014, while announcing a month-long nationwide 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' to mark the Prime Minister's upcoming silver jubilee in public office on October 7.

Drawing a sharp contrast between the UPA government and the post-2014 era, the Union Home Minister asserted that India has shed its former status as one of the "Fragile Five" economies to emerge as a leading global growth engine.

"Before 2014, the nation's path was crippled by three systemic evils—casteism, corruption, and nepotism," Union Minister Shah said.

"Over the last 12 years, these afflictions have been systematically eliminated. The public has, for the first time since Independence, witnessed a decisive and firm foreign policy."

The Union Minister emphasised that the Central government maintains an uncompromising, zero-tolerance policy regarding cross-border infiltration and illegal migration networks, reiterating that illegal migrants across the country will be identified and deported.

Highlighting internal security and constitutional achievements, Union Minister Shah noted that the Central government successfully freed the nation from three long-standing scourges: Article 370, Naxalism, and insurgency in the Northeast.

On national security, Amit Shah affirmed that any conspiracy resulting in casualties among Indian citizens or armed forces is now met with an immediate, retaliatory response visible to the global community.

To mark PM Modi's birthday on September 17 and his upcoming completion of 25 continuous years as head of the government on October 7, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) family, alongside civil society organisations, will execute a massive public service drive.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that Narendra Modi's leadership as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister between 2001 and 2026 have brought transformative changes to Gujarat and the country.

"In democratic system, a huge change has been witnessed. Before 2014, the country's direction was plagued by three evils—casteism, corruption, and nepotism."

"From 2014 to 2026, casteism, corruption, and nepotism have been eradicated, and the country is moving forward through the politics of performance. In the last 12 years, for the first time, the people of the country have witnessed a strong foreign policy."

Union Minister Shah noted that while PM Modi's birthday was traditionally celebrated as 'Seva Saptah' (Service Week) from September 17 to October 2, the scale has been expanded this year to a full month. ​

"In a democratic system, very few leaders in history hold a record of continuous, uninterrupted public service as a state's Chief Minister and the nation's Prime Minister," Amit Shah said, adding that the drive aims to align the nation toward the goal of making India a world leader in every sphere by 2047. ​

The Union Home Minister also highlighted cultural and legal reforms undertaken during the Prime Minister's tenure, noting that Indian regional languages received unprecedented national priority for the first time since 1947.

​On legal reform, Amit Shah confirmed that implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is expanding rapidly across states.

He expressed complete confidence that all 21 states currently governed by the BJP-NDA coalition will fully introduce and enact the UCC prior to 2029.
