PGIMS, Rohtak Prepares to Tackle Heatstroke; Provision of 12 dedicated beds for patients in the Emergency Department

Rohtak, May 4, 2026: Under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Agarwal, PGIMS, Rohtak has completed all necessary preparations to prevent any disruptions in service, even in the event of a sudden surge in patients suffering from severe heat-related illnesses—including heatstroke—or dengue. Medical Superintendent Dr. Kundan Mittal conducted a thorough inspection of the Emergency Department on Monday. He said that the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Agarwal has issued clear directives ensuring that every patient visiting the institute receives healthcare services characterized by dignity, compassion, and timeliness.

During his intensive inspection of the Emergency Department on Monday—conducted alongside a team of officials—Medical Superintendent Dr. Kundan Mittal announced that the Emergency, Trauma, and OPD sections have been designated as priority areas. He added that tangible improvements in these departments are expected to become visible within the next two months.

Dr. Mittal highlighted that special arrangements have been made within the Emergency Department specifically to address cases of heatstroke and dengue. An additional 12 beds have been allocated to ensure that patients affected by the heat receive immediate medical attention, and to guarantee that dengue patients, should they arrive, do not face any inconvenience. He also issued instructions to ensure the maximum availability of medicines within the Emergency Department.

MS Dr. Mittal further explained that two rooms within the Emergency Department have been designated as triage rooms for patient screening. Patients with mild conditions will be provided with immediate relief through medication at the initial stage, while critical cases will be attended to by senior doctors. This system aims to save patients' time and expedite the treatment process. Blood samples from critical patients will be collected directly while they are on their stretchers to prevent any delays during emergency situations. He also mentioned that a fully air-conditioned, advanced "Heatstroke Room" has been established and is ready for use.

Officials present during the inspection included Dr. Sukhbir Singh, Dr. Rohit, Dr. Mahesh Mahla, and Junior Engineer (JE) Ashish, among others.
