Jalandhar, March 17, 2023: The PG Department of Commerce and Management of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized an “Awareness Campaign on Consumer Rights Day” to commemorate the "World Consumer  Rights  Day". The consumer movement marks 15th March with World Consumer Rights Day every year as a means of creating awareness about consumer rights and promote consumer protection. The day commemorates the four basic consumer rights given by- John F. Kennedy  in 1962, i.e. The right of safety, The right to be informed, The right to be heard and The right to choice. In India, consumer protection Act 2019, provides such basic rights to consumers. The day acts like a reminder that consumer rights need to be safeguarded  from the unfair practices, the consumers must have access to quality and safe goods and services. Each year, World Consumer Rights  Day  focuses on a specific theme of consumer protection and the year 2023 aims at –  "Empowering Consumers through clean Energy Transitions".

The resource person for the awareness campaign was Dr. Kuljit Kaur, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Commerce and Management. She gave a vivid presentation on consumer rights, redressed mechanism and mediation as a tool for the protection of consumer rights. A detailed description on consumer Protection Act 1986 and 2019 was given and provisions related to redressal were discussed.

The students of PG Department of Commerce and Management attended the seminar and were enthusiastically involved in it. Many instances from real life were shared by the resource person about how consumers are exploited and how we as consumers ignore our rights in haste.
