Jalandhar, October 19, 2025: PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, celebrated Diwali — the festival of lights — with great enthusiasm, devotion, and festive charm. Organized by the Central Association, the celebration beautifully reflected the spirit of unity, creativity, and eco-consciousness. The Department of Fine Arts added to the grandeur by artistically decorating the college campus with vibrant rangolis, glistening diyas, and colorful embellishments, creating a radiant festive ambiance.

In continuation of its commitment to sustainability, the college also observed a ‘Clean and Green Diwali’ Pledge Ceremony, organized by the Eco Club in collaboration with the Department of Science. The event aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner. Organized with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, under the Environment Education Programme, State Nodal Agency Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, and CDC, GNDU, the ceremony was held under the able guidance of Samarth Sharma, CEO, National EduTrust of India. More than 30 students enthusiastically participated and took a solemn pledge to celebrate a pollution-free and eco-friendly Diwali by avoiding crackers, minimizing waste, and adopting sustainable practices. The event also included an awareness session on the harmful effects of pollution and the benefits of green celebrations. Students further shared their eco-friendly Diwali resolutions on social media to inspire others to adopt similar responsible habits.

The celebration commenced with the traditional worship of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, seeking blessings for prosperity, academic excellence, and well-being. Following the pooja, prasad was distributed among faculty members, staff, and students, fostering a sense of togetherness and reverence.

To promote an eco-friendly approach to festivities, students presented a skit on the theme “Green Diwali, Happy Diwali.” The participants included Vanshika (B.Com. Sem I), Bhawna (B.Sc. Eco Sem I), Khushi (B.Com. FS I), Muskan (B.Com. Sem I), and Kajal (B.Com. Sem I). Their performance beautifully conveyed the importance of celebrating Diwali with environmental awareness and responsibility. Adding to the celebratory spirit, Muskan (B.Com. FS I) gave a graceful dance performance, captivating the audience and enhancing the festive atmosphere.

President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other esteemed members of the Managing Committee, and the worthy Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar extended heartfelt Diwali greetings to all. She also encouraged students to spread the light of knowledge, positivity, and kindness, and to embrace the true spirit of Diwali by celebrating with responsibility, harmony, and joy.
