PAU organizes beekeeping training course
The Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized an NBHM sponsored five-day “Beekeeping Training Course for Beginners” which concluded successfully at PAU. A total of 43 trainees attended this training, out of which, 38 were male and five were female trainees.

Ludhiana, July 8, 2025: The Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized an NBHM sponsored five-day “Beekeeping Training Course for Beginners” which concluded successfully at PAU. A total of 43 trainees attended this training, out of which, 38 were male and five were female trainees.
Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, observed that the present basic beekeeping training course was endeavoured at providing livelihood to the underprivileged and unemployed rural youth of the State, thus, enabling them to earn a handsome livelihood towards their social and economic security. Para-military personnel too comprised the group of trainees, he told, adding that such trained persons will be the ambassador of PAU in their respective states.
The training was organized under the overall supervision of Dr Manmeet Kaur Bhullar, Head, Department of Entomology, who provided all the facilities necessary for conducting the training. She persuaded the trainees to take- up beekeeping as a startup.
Dr BK Kang, Principal Entomologist, on the concluding ceremony, shared that the trainees belonged to different states - Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Telangana. Out of the group of 43 trainees, a section was from Indo Tibetan Border Police, he informed.
Dr Jaspal Singh, Principal Entomologist and Course Director, said that trainees were imparted practical knowledge, on various aspects of beekeeping, through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practice. The experts dwelt up on hive and apicultural equipment; seasonal bee husbandry practices; management of bee enemies and diseases; swarming, robbing and queenlessness problems in honey bee colonies and their remedies; colony multiplication, and honey and beeswax extraction and their post-harvest handling, he added.
Drs Amit Choudhary and Bharathi Mohindru, Entomologists, were associated in the successful conduct of the training programme.
