Chandigarh, August 27, 2026: The Department of Statistics, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organised an Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students of M.Sc. (Hons.) Statistics, Semester-I, Session 2026-27.
The orientation provided the new students with an introduction to the Department and encouraged them to pursue academic excellence, professional growth and holistic development.
The programme commenced with Saraswati Vandana, lighting the ceremonial lamp, Vande Mataram and the PU Anthem. Chairperson, Prof. Narinder Kumar welcomed the students and provided an overview of the revised curriculum, Research Option, departmental facilities, Mentor-Mente Programme, research opportunities and co-curricular activities.
The students interacted with PU Alumnus and Director (Biostatistics) GenInvo Praveen Kumar, who shared insights from his professional journey.
Prof. Parveen Goyal highlighted the role and opportunities offered through the National Service Scheme (NSS); and Counsellor PU, Pulkita Wadhwa sensitised students about well-being, stress management and maintaining a balanced university life.
The programme also introduced students to the Placement Cell, Alumni Association, Newsletter, Coding Club, departmental activities, research opportunities and student engagements. An interactive Statistics Quiz, departmental presentations, an environment-awareness segment and interaction with seniors.
Coordinator of the programme were Dr. Anju Goyal and Dr. Rimmy Sharma. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Harminder Singh Deosi.
