Panjab University Organises Lecture on AI Applications in Library Education and Research Ethics
The Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised an invited lecture on “AI Applications in Library Education and Research & Publication and Research Ethics”. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Sharad Kumar Sonker, DLIS, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. Dr. Khushpreet Singh Brar, Chairperson, welcomed the resource person and introduced the topic of the event.
Chandigarh, February 16, 2026: The Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised an invited lecture on “AI Applications in Library Education and Research & Publication and Research Ethics”. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Sharad Kumar Sonker, DLIS, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. Dr. Khushpreet Singh Brar, Chairperson, welcomed the resource person and introduced the topic of the event.
Prof. Sonker provided an insightful overview of the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in library education and research. He discussed various AI tools and technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, and intelligent information retrieval systems that are reshaping academic libraries. He emphasised how AI can enhance cataloguing, classification, digital repositories, plagiarism detection, research data management, and user services. The lecture also highlighted the importance of equipping library professionals and students with AI competencies to meet the evolving demands of the information society.
A significant part of the lecture focused on publication and research ethics. Prof. Sonker elaborated on issues such as plagiarism, predatory journals, authorship ethics, citation practices, and responsible use of AI tools in research writing. He stressed the need for academic integrity, transparency, and adherence to ethical guidelines in scholarly communication. The discussion also addressed the ethical implications of using AI-generated content in research and the importance of maintaining originality and accountability.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion where participants raised questions regarding AI implementation challenges and ethical concerns. The lecture was highly insightful and academically significant, enhancing the understanding of library professionals, research scholars, and students regarding emerging technologies and their associated ethical responsibilities within the academic sphere. All the faculty members also attended the lecture.
